Music is not a contest and award shows are usually tabloid exposès on how people dress. But if it’s the San Diego Music Awards and your friends are nominated, then awards are totally awesome. This year’s nominees are not only talented and well deserving, but they're full on bros and we want to see them win. So vote for Retox, Blackout Party, Creepy Creeps, and Okapi Sun. Now, what to wear…
Our friends Diarrhea Planet are a great band with a horrible name. The Nashville punks pulled an awesome sneak attack on the Casbah Saturday night and came on just as Nobunny had finished tearing the place apart. The boys nailed two shows in one night and were looking at a very late and long drive out of town. Instead they took a detour straight to Mission Beach to dip their toes in the ocean and crash on Rock Team Captain Rob Molt’s floor. See them on tour and invite them to crash at your place.
Our good friends and one of North County San Diego’s loudest indie rock bands, Kut-U-Up, is back with a new EP. 'Worse Than Wolves' is their first release in a few years and we couldn’t be happier. Make sure you pick this one up now, because you never know with these guys…..

Just like Sector 9, June’s Griptape // Mixtape is all over the place. We kick off the summer with a fun and intense collection of new releases. From no brainers like the much hyped Daft Punk to the out-there new kids DZ Deathrays, this list is a trip, man.
North Carolina’s ASG are old friends of ours having lent us songs for our early videos and performing at some of our first shows; and that was before they were cool. Their 4th release and first on the Relapse label is another dose of their southern brand of psychedelic stoner rock. Blood Drive is a great example of the band’s harmonics and heavy riffs. Listen and get the new album on their bandcamp page, and tell them to call us.
Underground rock royalty, Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols, Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, Carrie Brownstein of Sleater Kinney, and J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr., joined Fred Armisen on Saturday Night Live to announce his departure. Fred is well known for his hilarious characters during his long tenure at SNL, but he is also an accomplished musician having played in multiple bands and having a strong connection to underground music. In a very cool move this past weekend Fred said goodbye as his character Ian Rubbish, accompanied by his favorite influential artists.
