New Music Tuesday #56 - Ex-Cult, "Midnight Passenger"

Menacing sounding Memphis band, Ex-Cult has spent the last year smashing their songs into every club they could. Seemingly perfecting their mixture of psych rock low end, post punk guitars, and a hectic vocal story line. Their first single “Midnight Passenger” is a dark look into what will be a scary good release on Goner Records come April.

New Music Tuesday #48 - Gap Dream, Shine Your Light

If Gabriel Fulvimar’s first Gap Dream LP was Ohio bedroom psych rock, then his second full length, Shine Your Light, is definitely more California dreamy loner pop.  You see, Gabe  moved out from the Midwest straight to Southern California’s Burger Records. Literally, he lives in a record store. The record reflects the changes in atmosphere, and the heavy synth sounds add layers to his new groovy stories. Welcome to California Gabe, we’re glad you’re here. Now find an apartment.

Griptape // Mixtape: Volume #5

There is only one way to open our latest Griptape//Mixtape, and that’s with New York’s king of cool, the late Lou Reed. From there we lead you down an eclectic street of new music with jams by Nobunny, our new crush, Queen Kwong, and San Diego’s own Earthless. As Lou said, take a walk on the wild side, so we did.

New Music Tuesday #43 - Earthless

The sky has cracked and the ground has opened to welcome Earthless back to our planet. The San Diego heavy psych-rock trio lands here bearing a gift, the hour long monstrous jams of  "From the Ages”. This latest release, their first in 6 years,  is out on Tee Pee records and it’s a crusher. We suggest the double gold vinyl version earthlings.

New Music Tuesday #42 - Hank 3 Double Release

What better way to start Rocktober, with the harvest moon setting and the hellbillies rising. New Hank 3 records and tour out today!

Head hellbilly, HANK 3 is pleased to announce a triple-threat of new releases, hitting stores October 1, 2013. HANK3 will release a brand new DOUBLE country album, entitled Brothers of the 4×4, and a single punk album, entitled A Fiendish Threat, with his new project “3”. Brothers of the 4×4 will also be available as a single LP vinyl version, and A Fiendish Threat will be available as a double LP vinyl version. Recording in his own home and releasing music on his own label, the Megaforce distributed HANK3 Records, allowed Williams complete creative control during the four month period it took to make both records. Besides living the songs subject matter first, HANK 3 sang and played both guitar and drums on the records. As if pulling triple duty wasn’t enough, he engineered, produced, mixed and mastered all the tunes as well. Not bad for someone who in his own words is dyslexic and has ADD, according to HANK 3 “my mind is all over the place”.
